Summary of 22146VIC Certificate IV in Safety Leadership (OHS) - Construction
The Certificate IV in Safety Leadership (OHS) – Construction was developed in 2006 by John Holland Group Pty Ltd, following extensive research into what constitutes effective and robust safety competency across diverse roles and responsibilities within the company and the construction industry. Key aspects of this industry-focussed research was carried out in partnership with the CRC for Construction Innovation, with John Holland as a core member (with continuing membership of the CRC’s successor, the Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre).
The program aims to provide construction industry personnel and contractors in safety critical positions with the skills and knowledge required to complete their work effectively and to deliver safe outcomes for the workforce and clients. The qualification addresses the competency required to support the focused implementation of ensuring a positive safety culture within the workplace. The course was designed for workplace leaders to create and maintain a safety culture and a new way forward by introducing a more stringent standard of OHS competency and compliance. The Certificate IV in Safety Leadership (OHS) – Construction is aligned to AQF Level 4 in that the competencies gained enable identified personnel to become OHS leaders. There is evidence that this Certificate IV in Safety Leadership (OHS) – Construction is transportable and recognised by other construction companies as an industry standard.
The qualification was reaccredited in June 2011 and assigned a new code 22146VIC by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA). While the qualification title remains the same, i.e. Certificate IV in Safety Leadership (OHS) – Construction, the current code 21748VIC expires on 31 December 2011.
Under the new code, the 22146VIC Certificate IV in Safety Leadership (OHS) – Construction is valid from 1 January 2012 until 31 December 2016. The registration authority for this qualification has been transferred to the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
Eligibility to Download the Curriculum of 22146VIC Certificate IV in Safety Leadership (OHS) – Construction
The qualification is a nationally accredited course. Only Registered Training Organisations (TAFEs and private RTOs) are eligible to download the curriculum document.
Curriculum Monitoring, Evaluation and Updates
John Holland as the copyright owner and course developer have appointed Safety Dimensions as the Curriculum Manager of Certificate IV in Safety Leadership (OHS) – Construction. Safety Dimensions work closely with John Holland in monitoring and evaluating the conduct and outcomes of the course. Course monitoring by John Holland and Safety Dimensions may result in periodical or urgent modification to the curriculum. When curriculum updates happen, RTOs with this qualification in their scope of registration are required to implement the modification as soon as practicable, within no more than 12 months after the updates come into effect. Following curriculum updates, licensee RTOs are required to provide in writing their transition/teach out arrangement upon request by John Holland or Safety Dimensions.
