BSB51315 Diploma of Work Health and Safety is a nationally recognised program designed for people who coordinate and maintain the work health and safety (WHS) program of an organisation. By building on your existing experience and qualifications in WHS/OHS, this Diploma supports you in taking the next step in your WHS management career.
In this program you will learn the skills required to be a trusted safety professional in roles such as a WHS Manager, Senior WHS Officer or WHS Practitioner, with the capability to apply your knowledge and skills in a wide variety of WHS contexts and industries. This Diploma also benefits those who are owners, directors or officers of companies who want a greater understanding of how to comply with WHS laws and understand how to create and maintain an effective WHS program for their organisation.
What will you learn?
A key part of a WHS professional and any leader’s role is the ability to provide informed advice and leadership as well as to manage risks and investigate incidents. You will learn how to contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining WHS management systems and to analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources in order to provide safety solutions to a range of unpredictable problems.
This program covers the broad WHS skills and technical capabilities that apply across a wide range of situations and industries. It will expand on your existing knowledge of WHS management, and will develop the necessary skills you need to provide leadership and guidance on WHS issues in a variety of work environments.
Safety Dimensions offers this nationally recognised course in both course-work and a combined RPL/course work version. Your course will be facilitated by some of the industry’s best trainers, each of whom are highly experienced and qualified WHS practitioners.
- Effectively manage WHS consultation and participation processes
- Establish, implement and maintain WHS risk management systems
- Administer WHS information systems, measures and initiatives
- Provide and develop WHS leadership
- Administer and conduct WHS incident investigations
- Facilitate the development and use of hazard-management tools.
The prerequisites for this Diploma course are the 5 core units of BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent competencies.
- BSBWHS402 Assist with compliance with WHS laws
- BSBWHS403 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes
- BSBWHS404 Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
- BSBWHS405 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems
- BSBWHS406 Assist with responding to incidents
Learners must also have sound literacy skills.
For those who are without the required prerequisites, we also offer a pathway WHS program – BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety. This is suitable for those beginning their career as a safety professional and there are no prerequisites for this program.
Have extensive experience but no formal qualification?
If you have extensive vocational work experience in work health and safety roles without a formal qualification you may consider applying for RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning), a process for giving candidates credit for skills, knowledge and experience gained. You will be required to gather evidence of your experience. There is a fee for RPL assessment.

This highly interactive program is delivered face to face over 3 x 3 day training sessions (total 9 days) over a 3-4 month period with a relevant and easy to integrate project into your day to day work.
Prior to program: Preliminary research and reading – to be completed within 2 weeks prior to Module 1.
Module 1: 3 days face to face, followed by 1 month to undertake a case study.
Module 2: 3 days face to face, followed by 1 month to undertake a case study.
Module 3: 3 days face to face, followed by 1 month to undertake a case study.
We offer this program as a bespoke program customised to your industry and learner requirements or as a face-to-face program for individuals or small groups with our sister division Workplace Dimensions.
$2,995 per person (GST is not applicable on accredited training). Program fee includes all materials, assessment, morning and afternoon tea and lunch each day.
